No. 04Meet the Founder
CM
Crystal MerkelFounder & coach

She rebuilt her own strength. Now she builds it with you.

Crystal Merkel did not find this work in a polished studio. She found it through her own body, across pregnancy, surgeries, and loss, learning how to come back to strength when starting over felt impossible.

A fitness coach and HIIT instructor with a Foundation Training background, she built Ocotillo Core Collective around a simple truth she lived. Caregivers do not need to disappear into a gym to get strong. They need movement that fits real life, welcomes their kids, and meets them exactly where they are.

“Strength is not something you are given back. It is something you grow, one steady season at a time, like the ocotillo.”

Crystal Merkel
AlliPediatric OT · co-influence

The method is shaped alongside Alli, a pediatric occupational therapist. Her grounding in anatomy, child development, and play is why a toddler clambering through a session is not a distraction. It is part of how the work actually gets done.

No. 05The Approach

One method, blended from five roots.

Sessions weave these together into something that feels less like training and more like play. And the children are not on the sidelines. They are part of the workout, climbing, counting, and moving right alongside you.

  1. 01

    Functional strength

The lifting, carrying, and rising that real days are made of.

  2. 02

    Deep core

Rebuilding from the center out, breath and brace working together.

  3. 03

    Mobility

Joints that move freely so strength has somewhere to go.

  4. 04

    Breathwork

Steadying the nervous system, the quiet engine under every lift.

  5. 05

    Toddler-inspired play

Squat, crawl, reach, climb. The way bodies were built to move.

No. 06What We Stand On

Three roots, planted deep in the desert.

01

Community

Strength holds longer when it is shared. We move in groups, learn names, and keep showing up for one another.

02

Play

The work hides inside the fun. Games, challenges, and kids underfoot turn a workout into something you look forward to.

03

Resilience

Like the ocotillo, which greens with the rain and waits out the dry, you learn to adapt to every season and grow through it.

No. 07Field Notes

I came to a free Happy Javelinas workout with my 18-month-old on my hip, sure I would have to leave early. Instead he played in the grass while I actually moved, and a circle of moms cheered me on. I have not missed a week since.

Daniela R.Mom of one · Central Tucson
Eight weeks postpartum, I did not trust my own core. Crystal met me exactly there and rebuilt it with me, never rushing. I feel like myself in my body again.
Megan T.Postpartum · Oro Valley
After my surgery I assumed working out was off the table for a long while. Every movement was scaled to what I could do that day. It felt like care, not a class.
